Hosseini was extremely courageous to provide a novel that depicts the true Afghan people and their complex issues. It is apparent that Hosseini’s novel has allowed a voice not only for the community and culture of Afghanistan but it has also allowed some very deep and complex issues and themes to be explored within the novel such as: male abuse, male prostitution, effects of the Taliban, war, family, religion, race and ethnicity as well as the male voice that is actually quite silent within the novel.
