Brazillier uses the word ‘labyrinth’ here to define how complex the nature of not only Islam is but also how complex the act of freedom of speech is. Ironically Seierstad’s text caused an international storm and conflict amongst the wider community. Seierstad reported that:

It is Afghanistan’s story. If I could contribute to more people getting education (so) that many people can tell their stories, then I have done it. (Lassen, 2013, p.92)

Seierstad’s ironic remark was to haunt her as she delved deeper into the text and the issues that were raised for the wider community.
